I did not like either character in this book. I get that both of them had issues to work out, but they spent the entire book at odds. When they were together, and arguing, the author might throw in that they felt a twinge of something like desire for the other and that was pretty much it. They didn't really get together until the last 20 or so pages. I dislike romance books where the characters argue constantly and then the last few pages they're all of a sudden in love. I like my heroes and heroines to work together, drawing closer the whole time. They didn't connect at all for me. This would have been better as just a suspense novel, though that part wasn't that great either.Product details

Deathscape Broslin Creek Volume 1 Dana Marton 9781481163491 Books Reviews
Ashley Price is doing everything she can do to get her life on track after a naer death experience. Her Daughter Maddie was taken away form her by her father who wants his artist daughter to move home so he can take care of her properly but all Ashley wants to do is go back to the way thins were before she started painting dark imagines.
Detective Jack Sullivan moves from city to city trying to find the serial killer who killed his older sister when he was thirteen years old and refuses to stop chase the man even if it mean to dying in the process. When Ashley saves Jacks life after Brady Blackwell killed him he is more determined than ever to find and the man and kill him.
With most Romantic Suspense novels someone has to be damaged but this time both characters have dark past that make it difficult to live in the present. Ashley lost a child in her care and Jack lost his sister at a young age. From first page to the last page you really wonder if they will be ever able to get over what happened to them. Yes they get a Happier Ever After but not before a lot of personal struggle giving the book a more realistic side compared to other book in this genre.
NOW this could be considered Spoiler Alert because after all this book is a fast pace mystery so don't read on. I warned you!
Ashley has visions of death that she has to paint otherwise she will be in pain until she does. Jack finds Ashley trying to destory her painting because she is afirad that the police will think she is a killer but instead of burning them Jack keeps each one unable to decided if she is a killer until he watches her in action. These scene the author paints this scenes in an interesting because she doesn't make it supernatural but at the same time it has a supernatural feeling until Jack and Ashley figure out why she is having these vision of death which make it really believable in the end. Now she isn't Psych because she doesn't save lives she only paints death which is a nice switch for a change.
You will guess Blackwell but only when the author is ready for you to figure it out and I think if the reader is paying pretty good attention they will figure out who it is early on. Watching the character tip toeing around each other is fun and the birthday scene is really funny and had me laughing because I have little girls.
I love that she didn't have the characters jump in the sack right away which is a nice change because recently it feels like a lot of Romantic Suspense novels has everyone jump in bed together after a few meetings and very graphic sex scenes which this book doesn't have.
This romantic suspense is much more of a suspense than romance and a bit on the creepy side.
Artist, Ashley Price nearly died when she was ice skating with her daughter and a little neighbour boy. When they fell through the ice, Ashley got her daughter out but couldn't save the boy. She also died but was brought back by paramedics. She was never the same after the accident, suffering from guilt and depression. Because of this, Ashley's father had the girl live with him. Ashley started having visions that she was compelled to paint. The visions were of dead people. She never told anyone about them because she was afraid they would think she was crazy and she wouldn't get her daughter back.
When she painted a vision of a man who was still alive and buried on her property, she went and saved him. The man was a cop, Jack Sullivan, and wasn't thankful to Ashley for saving him but thought she was in cahoots with the serial killer, Brady Blackwell, who buried him. Jack was obsessed with finding Blackwell because his sister had been one of Blackwell's victims.
This is an unusual story with well developed unusual characters. Serial killers are not unusual but what he did with his victims was and Ashley's visions gave the story a creepy vibe. Even though she, herself, thought she was losing it, she was determined to be strong so she could get her daughter back. What a shame that Jack let finding Blackwell take over his life. Nothing else mattered to him so he didn't really have a life. Once Jack accepted that Ashley wasn't mixed up with Blackwell, he started to have feelings for her and she for him.
I must say I was surprised to learn who Blackwell was. I never suspected that person.
I did not like either character in this book. I get that both of them had issues to work out, but they spent the entire book at odds. When they were together, and arguing, the author might throw in that they felt a twinge of something like desire for the other and that was pretty much it.
